29th Carp Fest Adds Biz Expo

Local businesses, from homebased operations to Archbold’s industrial giants, will have the opportunity to showcase their products and services in the Biz Expo, the newest addition to Archbold’s annual Carp Festival.

This year’s Carp Fest kicks off Thursday night, July 10, and runs through Saturday, July 12.

Biz Expo joins Art in the Park, which was added last year. Art in the Park will be held in Ruihley Park; Biz Expo will be held in the Ruihley Park Pavilion.

Last year, Art in the Park brought art and craft vendors into Ruihley Park. The vendors offered a wide variety of items for sale, including paintings, jewelry, handbags, furniture, and even dog treats.

Marsha Dowdy, Archbold Area Chamber of Commerce assistant administrator, said chamber members didn’t want the arts and crafts vendors in the park to pull people away from Archbold merchants sidewalk sales, so Biz Expo was created to give local busineses a place to display and sell their products and services.

“It gives them a chance to sell their wares out where the craft people are set up,” she said.

She said 12 merchants have reserved booth space in the pavilion.

“For the first year, we had hoped for 15, so that’s not too bad,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Art in the Park program has expanded.

Last year, there were about 50 vendors in Ruihley Park, and business went well.

“The crafters were very pleased,” she said.

This year, 52 have reserved booths, along with nine food vendors.

“I think it has grown nicely,” Dowdy said.

Traditional Carp Festival events will again take place.

Carp Fest kicks off Thursday night with the Adriel Auxiliary Ice Cream Social, with an open meeting of the Adriel board that afternoon in the pavilion.

Friday night is the Lions Club Auction, fish fry, and Archbold Parks and Recreation Splash Dance for kids at the Archbold Swimming Pool.

Saturday activities include Art in the Park, the Biz Expo, the Art Zone for kids, and the Kids All-American Fishing Derby.

There are volleyball tournaments both Friday and Saturday night. Sand court action takes place Friday. Volleyball will be played on the grass Saturday.
