12 Gold Softball




The 12 Gold softball team entertained Wauseon, Thursday, June 26 at Memorial Park. With only nine players, the Gold played tough defense. Archbold scored a run in the first inning when Ciara Burris hit in Hannah Kern, and scored the winning run in the third when Jesse Fidler hit a double, scoring Cassidy Williams.

Wauseon scored in the first and had the tying run on third base with no outs in the seventh, but Kern struck out the side for a 2-1 final.

Kern and Fidler had three hits each. Alexa Coressel had one. Winter Fricke pitched five strong innings with four strikeouts and three hits.

The team traveled to Liberty Center, Tuesday, July 1. Archbold scored twice in the first, but LC answered with four. The Streaks took charge in the second, scoring six runs, and never looked back, winning 19-7.

Cassidy Wyse had two triples. Desi Newman and Kern each had three hits; Fidler, Jennifer Gerken and Krista Leupp had two; Fricke, Coressel and Burris had one each. Pitching was handled by Kern, Fricke, and Shannon Neuenschwander.

The team traveled to Montpelier, Wednesday, July 2 to play a game that was delayed and then shortened by bad weather. The Gold came out strong and scored three runs in the first. Montpelier answered with two.

Archbold defense tightened up and didn’t allow the Locos any more scores while the Gold team scored four more to win 7-2.

Neuenschwander and Burris homered; Becca Gerig and Newman had triples. Fricke pitched the first five innings, giving up six hits, one walk, and three strikeouts. Kern pitched the last inning, striking out two.

The team finished the week, Thursday, July 3 with undefeated Delta coming to town. Delta scored once in the first but Archbold answered with three when Kern, Fidler, Wyse and Newman opened with four straight hits.

Things fell apart defensively for the Gold (5-3) in the fourth and Delta scored six runs. They went on to win 12-4.

Hannah Kern pitched seven strong innings, striking out five while walking two. Also getting hits were Gerig, a triple; Leupp, a double; and Gerken, a single.
