Emma Hall, Karsyn Hostetler, and Addison Moy-er, AHS juniors, and seniors Lyndsey Gladieux and Re-gan Ramirez were winners in the Junior Achievement Innovators Challenge Schol-arship Competition. Winners were announced Wednesday, May 26. Michelle Bagrowski, cur-riculum director for Arch-bold, said the JA program is “a competition in which high school students apply creative problem-solving to community challenges by utilizing design thinking, teamwork and innovation toward positive change-mak-ing solutions.” Bagrowksi said Michele Gladieux, AHS business teacher, “took this on in one of her classes, and had two teams that placed in the top five and earned scholarships.” The team of Hostetler, Hall and Moyer earned fourth place for their proposed Eng-lish language learners pro-gram. The program goal was to foster strong peer connec-tions between students and language learners. Each received $1,250 in scholarship money. Gladieux and Ramirez proposed a program to in-volve Fairlawn residents in the Archbold community by fostering intergenerational exchange between the resi-dents and AHS students. Gladieux and Ramirez each received $1,500 in scholarship money. “I am very appreciative that Mrs. Gladieux took on this new challenge with not much time left in the school year and made it happen,” Bagrowski said. She said Gladieux “was willing to fill out the neces-sary curriculum for the stu-dents and helped them to submit exceptional projects. “This earned Archbold students $6,750 worth of col-lege scholarships.” In all, the program award-ed $16,500 in scholarships.
