“It’s nice to have an oldschool dual meet,” said Brian Becher, AHS head coach. “I don’t think the kids have ever seen one before.

“We’re gonna try to schedule more of these.”

The Streaks turned a close contest into a runaway 45-22 non-league victory.

The match started with the 195-pound weight class. Gibson Burkholder won with a pin over Preston Foor in 58 seconds.

Izzy Reyes (220 lbs.) had a narrow 9-8 win over Adalberto Vega, a returning state alternate, for a 9-0 lead.

Spencer Simon (285 lbs.) fell to Jonah Schlegel by fall to give the Dogs their first points.

A forfeit at 106 lbs. gave Defiance a 12-9 lead.

Andrew Francis (120 lbs.) dropped an 11-3 major decision to Juan Perez, and Shane Eicher (126 lbs.) lost a close 2-0 decision to Lupe Martinez to put the Bulldogs on top 19-15.

Caleb Zamora (132 lbs.) accepted a forfeit to push the Streaks ahead 21-19.

Zach Rocha (138 lbs.) pinned Logan Elkins in 1:57 and Juan Garcia (145 lbs.) defeated Dominic Tracy 9-6 to extend the difference to 30-19.

Brennan Short (152 lbs.) dropped a 4-3 decision to Jacob Hatchett, but it was the last win the Bulldogs would record.

John Yoder (160 lbs.) pinned Alex Hoeffel in 2:41 and Kasyn Schaffner (171 lbs.) won over Angelo Gonzalez 3-1.

Mason Babcock (182 lbs.) got the final victory with a forfeit for the 45-22 win.

Streaks Ninth At Border Wars

The Streaks took part in the Defiance Tri-State Border Wars, Friday-Saturday, Dec. 28-29, 2018.

The tournament consists of teams from Ohio, Indiana and Michigan.

Niles (Mi.) was the tournament champion with 168.5 points.

Sandusky placed second with 129. Archbold was ninth with 85.5 points.

B. Short was Archbold’s highest-place finisher, placing third at 145 lbs.

Schaffner placed fifth at 160 lbs. Francis was sixth at 120 lbs. and Eicher finished eighth at 126 lbs.
