A Great County Fair

Our county fair is a great county fair, perhaps the best county fair in the state. Rodgers and Hammerstein wrote similar lyrics for the song “State Fair,” and we feel the same about our Fulton County Fair.

The 161st edition of the annual event wrapped up last week and welcomed more than 290,000 visitors through the gates.

What makes the Fulton County Fair so great? There are many, many answers. Here are several:

•A great spot on the calendar. With the fair being held over Labor Day weekend, working families have time to get away and enjoy the excitement.

•A great location. The front gate of the fairgrounds is a few hundred feet from the Wauseon Ohio Turnpike exit. What could be more convenient?

•A great fairgrounds. With tall shade trees, plenty of parking, new buildings and well-kept old ones, who could ask for a better place?

•A variety of great attractions. Concerts, truck and tractor pulling, harness racing, judging of 4-H animals and other projects, midway rides, merchant displays, and food vendors with anything and everything to eat– it’s almost too much to digest in one visit.

But most of all, the fair is about Fulton County people. From members of the fair board, who spend an entire year preparing for a seven-day fair, to children and adults who bring their projects for judging, to the visitors who stroll through the events, displays, and midway, the Fulton County Fair is made great by great people.

Mark your calendar now for the 2019 Fulton County Fair. It’s going to be great!
