Pettisville Boys Golf Opens Season

Mike Zimmerman begins his first season at the helm of Pettisville golf with seven returning letterwinners from a team that finished 6-10 in dual-, tri-, and quadmeets in 2017.

The Birds finished fifth in the Buckeye Border Conference last year after placing fourth in the conference tournament.

Drew Canada was the only letterwinner lost to graduation.

Returning are Austin Horning, a senior three-year letterwinner, and Graeme Jacoby, a junior two-year letterwinner.

Also returning are sophomore letterwinners Tommy McWatters and Max Leppelmeier, who were Second Team All-BBC; Caleb Nafziger, Jake King, and Josh Horning.

Zimmerman said while the seven returning letterwinners are a strength, establishing consistency with the young players is a weakness.

As far as the BBC outlook, “Working hard and striving to improve upon our regular season and tournament conference from a year ago” is a goal, the mentor said.

Pettisville was scheduled to open its season, Monday, Aug. 6, at the Defiance Invitational.
