Huffman Wins Mid-Season Title

John Huffman, veteran Archbold kart racer, won the mid-season championship in his class at the track at Fremont, Sunday, July 8.

Huffman has been racing in the pro-oval class with valve-in-head engines on the asphalt oval track. For the mid-season championship, the points series leader in each class was recognized.

So far, in seven out of 10 points-paying races, Huffman won five, and finished second in another.

Huffman traveled to the paved tri-oval track at Cardington, where he was third in the first heat and the feature. Vance Nofziger, of Pandora- Gilboa, formerly of Archbold, finished fourth in both races.

Huffman raced on the dirt oval track at Fremont, one of the races in the Dual Crown series, Saturday, July 28. A driver has to compete on both dirt and asphalt tracks in Dual Crown.

He was fifth in the first heat race, then started on the pole position and won the second.

In the feature event, Huffman was collected in an accident that tipped over his racer, but he was able to push himself back over onto the wheels without stalling the engine. He finished eighth in the feature.
