Potential Large Sale Of Water Discussed

Donna Dettling, Archbold village administrator, said village officials have been in discussions with a potential major water customer.

Water was a topic at the Monday, July 2 village council meeting.

The city of Toledo sends water far outside its borders, to suburban customers, including the North Star-BHP steel mill near Delta, and the northeastern Fulton County water system.

Now, Toledo city officials and their suburban customers are negotiating new rates for the water.

Dettling said one potential water customer wants to see what Archbold’s bulk water rates will be if Toledo hikes its water rates.

Dettling told council that the potential water customer wants a commitment of two million gallons of water per year.

She said given ConAgra’s demand for water, Archbold officials can’t commit to two million gallons without renovations to the water treatment plant and reservoirs, a project that would cost “millions and millions” of dollars.

If that customer is willing to help pay for those renovations, that would be another matter, she said.

Waterline

Council approved a change order for the new Memorial Park waterline, which will service the new baseball diamond and a future concession stand-restroom building.

The new waterline will add $58,704.90 to the cost of the first phase of the project, for a total cost of $428,794.90.

Vaughn Bentz, councilman, asked about the possibility of council picking up part of the cost of the waterline, because it can be used for future street extensions in the area.

Dettling reminded Bentz that the village already allocated

$250,000 to the diamond project.

Stiriz

Dettling also said that Jonah Stiriz has been named a new full-time firefighter and paramedic.

Stiriz, from Fayette, starts his new job Sunday, July 15.

She said the hiring process went okay, but that the village will need to revise the process.

Council members Kevin Morton and Kevin Eicher were absent.

The next meeting was moved to Monday, July 23, 7 pm, in council chambers.
