PHS Baseball Falls In Sectional Finals

The Birds also defeated Montpelier in Buckeye Border Conference action.

Div. IV Sect. Semifinal

PHS 14, Fayette 2

Pettisville easily advanced to the sectional finals with a 14-2 drubbing of Fayette (2- 15) in a sectional semifinal, Tuesday, May 8, at Pettisville.

Austin Horning was the winning pitcher. In five innings he allowed two runs on four hits, struck out four, and walked three.

Dillon King had a double, single, and four RBIs. A. Horning had a double with an RBI. Josh Horning, Justin Rupp, and Brayden Barrett each had two base hits with an RBI, and Logan Rufenacht had a single.

Div. IV Sectional Final

Hicksville 3, PHS 0

The Aces (16-3), ranked 10th in Div. IV by the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association, shut out Pettisville 3-0 to win the Div. IV sectional title, Thursday, May 10, at Hicksville. Roth was the losing pitcher. In six innings he allowed three runs on three hits, struck out none, and walked three.

King had Pettisville’s only hit, a single.

PHS 13, Montpelier 5

Pettisville (6-12, 4-6 BBC) scored five runs in the seventh inning on its way to a 13-5 BBC win over leagueleading Montpelier (9-12, 7-3 BBC), Saturday, May 12, at Montpelier.

Rufenacht was the winning pitcher. In seven innings he allowed five runs on eight hits, struck out five, and walked one.

Pettisville had 10 hits. Rufenacht had two singles with an RBI, while A. Horning and Tommy McWatters each had a single with an RBI.

Roth had a double with three RBIs; King had a double with four RBIs.

Rupp had two base hits; Devin Beltz had one.
