Archbold Baseball Wins Third Straight Sectional Title

III sectional final with Lake, Friday, May 11.– photo by Mary Huber The Archbold baseball team (22-4) won its third straight Division III sectional title with a 3-0 shutout of Lake (13-8), Friday, May 11, at AHS.

The Streaks, ranked third in Division III in the latest Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association poll, advance to the district semifinals, tomorrow, Thursday, 4 pm, against Genoa (16-4) at Defiance High School.

Eastwood (#16, 23-2) plays Swanton (15-7) in the first game at 2 pm.

Winners play for the district championship, Saturday, May 19, 1 pm, at Defiance.

Against Lake, the Streaks led 1-0 until the fifth inning, when AHS scored two runs with two outs for the 3-0 score.

Brandon Miller pitched a complete game. In seven innings he allowed no runs on one hit, struck out 10, and walked five.

Trevor Rupp (5-1) got the 11-0 five-inning win, Monday, May 7, at Pettisville.

He allowed no runs on one hit, struck out five, and walked four.

Landon Roth suffered the loss. In three innings he allowed one run on three hits, struck out two, and walked none.

Leading AHS at the plate were Jeron Williams, double, two singles, three runs batted in; Kade Kern, two doubles, two RBIs; T.J. Rice, two singles, two RBIs; and Miller, two singles.

Justin Rupp had Pettisville’s only hit, a single.

AHS 9, Defiance 5

It was a battle of stateranked teams when the Streaks traveled to Defiance (Div. II #2), Tuesday, May 8.

The Streaks led 8-0 after three innings and used five Bulldog errors to their advantage on their way to a 9-5 non-league victory.

It was the 20th win for AHS this season, the fifth time in the last six years the Streaks have won at least 20 games.

Tom Held, DHS head coach, told another area newspaper that it was the first time Archbold beat the Bulldogs in 20 years that he knew of.

Bryson Taylor started on the mound and pitched three strong innings, but ran into trouble in the fourth, when Defiance scored all five of its runs.

Rigo Ramos came on in relief and shut the Bulldogs down on one hit for the rest of the game.

Leading hitters for Archbold: Rodriguez, triple, single, RBI; B. Williams, two singles, RBI; Mitch Grosjean, two singles; Cory Erbskorn, triple, two RBIs; Gabe Petersen, double, RBI; Kern and J. Williams, single, RBI each.

Archbold improved to 21- 4 with a 4-2 non-league win at Ottawa-Glandorf (13-6), Thursday, May 10.

Rice ripped a single in the top of the sixth to drive in the tying and eventual-winning run.

He also came on in relief and held the Titans scoreless the last 1 1/3 innings to get the win on the mound.

At the plate, Kern and B. Williams each hit two singles.

Rice had a single with two RBIs; Miller and Rodriguez each had a single with an RBI.
