Briley Resigns From Teaching Position

The Pettisville School Board accepted the resignation of instrumental music teacher Ryan Briley at its Monday, April 9 board meeting.

Briley has served in the position for the past 2 1/2 years. He resigned to relocate to the east coast.

Steve Switzer, superintendent, said during Briley’s tenure, participation in the instrumental music program increased from 67 to 110 students.

Dan Bruner, board president, said, “I am sad to see him go. He has done a great job. We wish him well.”

In another personnel action, following a 67-minute executive session the board approved a two-year contract for Switzer. The contract begins August 1, 2018 and runs through July 31, 2020.

Salary figures were not discussed.

Other contracts were approved for teachers and support staff. Luann Bacon, John Poulson, and Charles Nafziger were all approved for one-year contracts under the retire-and-rehire provisions of state law.

Ellen Bostwick and Myra Frazer were also approved for one-year contracts.

Julia Richer and Matt Shumaker were approved for three-year contracts, and Lacee Miller was approved for a five-year contract.

Barbara Stuckey was approved for a one-year contract with the stipulation that her position is funded by a grant.

On the recommendation of Michael Lane, high school principal, Andrew Switzer was approved for a three-year contract. Switzer is the son of Steve Switzer, district superintendent.

Contracts were approved for support staff members. Margo Bostelman and Vicki Nofziger were granted two-year contracts. Shawn Liechty and Kathy Gruenhagen received one-year contracts.– D.J. Neuenschwander
