PHS Girls Defeat Fayette, Fall To Delta

Panther Jessie Giguere defends, right.– photo by Mary Huber The Pettisville girls basketball team split a pair of games last week, falling to Delta but advancing to 2-0 in the Buckeye Border Conference and 2-1 overall with a win at Fayette.

Delta 63, PHS 49

The Panthers (2-0) hit nine three-pointers when they visited the Bird Cage, Tuesday, Nov. 28, for a nonleague contest.

Down 4-2 midway through the first period, Delta went on a 12-3 run to end the period with a 14-7 lead.

The Birds climbed to within three twice, 16-13 and 20- 17, but the Panthers went on a 12-4 run to widen the gap to 32-21, and they went into the locker room up 36-25.

Delta was up by 15, 51-36, after three on its way to the 63-49 victory.

Delta’s Maddie Mattimore led all scorers, with 24 points. Brooklyn Green chipped in 14.

Morgan Leppelmeier led the Birds, with 13 points. Nichole Foor added 11.

The Birds grabbed 31 rebounds to 28 for Delta, but committed 17 turnovers to Delta’s five.

PHS was 16-30 at the foul line and 17-32 from the field, while the Panthers were 8- 11 at the foul line and 23-54 from the field.

PHS 58, Fayette 27

Pettisville had only four players in the scoring column, but three were in double figures as the Birds defeated the Eagles 58-27, Thursday, Nov. 30.

PHS led 16-7 after one, 28-13 at the half, and 32-23 after three.

“It was a great defensive effort by the entire team,” said Waldvogel. “Nichole Foor had a fantastic game in the paint for us.”

Foor led all scorers, with 22 points. Leppelmeier added 15 and Brandi Schnitkey scored 13.

Addison Bentley and Mataya Rufenacht each scored nine to lead the Eagles (1-2, 1-1 BBC).
