Rupp, McQuade Win Sectional Crown

The pair had a bye in the first round, then defeated Estes and Yark of Ottawa Hills 6-4, 6-0, in the second round.

They advanced to the semifinals with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Uribes & Hicks of Wauseon in the third round.

Rupp and McQuade advanced to the finals with a 6- 4, 6-4 defeat of Rigby Crawford and Drew Dominiak of Toledo Central Catholic in the semifinals.

In the championship round, Rupp and McQuade defeated Napoleon’s Conner Bialorucki and Zak Towne 6-2, 6-3 to win the title and advance to the district tournament at Bowling Green State University, Thursday, May 18, and Saturday, May 20.

They play the Oak Harbor doubles team of Bo Hermes and Holden Pelz in the first round.

The top three doubles teams and singles winners advance to the state tournament in Mason, Friday, May 26, and Saturday, May 27.

“Jereme and Luke have worked hard, and this is a huge accomplishment,” said James Kidder, AHS coach.

“Advancing in tennis is very difficult. So, to not only advance but to secure the number-one seed is excellent.

“I am very proud of all they have accomplished, and it is great that Jereme gets to keep playing, since it is his senior year. We are all looking forward to districts on Thursday.”

Doubles: Levi Strawn and Brad Diller, first round bye; defeated Escale and Todd of Maumee Valley Country Day 6-1, 6-0; lost to Schwann and Greely of Ottawa Hills 6-1, 6-2. Singles: Michael Short was defeated by Z. Scally of Toledo Central Catholic 6-2, 6-2. Lucas Rupp defeated MVCD’s Z. Safadi 6-1, 6-2; lost to Bryan’s K. McCashen 6-1, 6-0. Erik Short defeated MVCD’s S. Granato 6-3, 6-2; defeated J. Scally of TCC 4-6, 6-1, 6-3; lost to C. Mullins of Ada 6-0, 6-1.

In regular-season action, the Streaks blanked Napoleon 5-0, Monday, May 8, and Wauseon 5-0, Tuesday, May 9 to finish the regular season with a 12-3 record.
