Library Director Announces Retirement

Joyce Klingelsmith Joyce Klingelsmith After almost 30 years at the Archbold Community Library– almost 28 as library director–Joyce Klingelsmith announced her retirement.

“The years have gone by quickly,” she said.

Terri Krebs, president of the Archbold Library Board, read Klingelsmith’s letter of resignation for the purpose of retirement at the Wednesday, March 8 board meeting.

In the letter, Klingelsmith set her last day at the library as Dec. 31.

Klingelsmith said she wants to give the board plenty of time to find a replacement.

She read that searches for new directors can take up to six months.

“I don’t want you to feel rushed,” she said.

In her letter, she said she is committed to making the transition to a new director as smooth as possible.

Klingelsmith started at the library in December 1987 in the childrens department. In 1990, she was named library director.

Jed Grisez, board vice president, volunteered to serve on a search committee to seek a replacement.

Jay Budde, board member, asked Klingelsmith if she had any retirement plans.

She said she had none other than “not coming to work every morning,” and that she would probably do a lot of volunteer work.
