Fayette Man Killed In Crash On US20

Naylen Kane Fonseca, 24, Fayette, was killed in a crash between two trucks at the intersection of US20 and St. Rt. 109 about 5 am, Wednesday, Feb. 22.

In a press release, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said Fonseca was driving what was identified as a tractor-trailer east on US20. A second tractor-trailer rig, driven by Roberto DeJesus Hernandez, Jr., 30, of San Jacinto, Calif., was traveling north on St. Rt. 109, and attempted to make a left turn to go west on US20.

In doing so, the patrol said Hernandez failed to yield the right of way to Fonseca, and the two vehicles collided, coming to rest in the intersection.

Fonseca was pronounced dead at the scene. His remains were extricated from the wreckage by Morenci (Mich.) and Lyons Rescue squads, than transported to the morgue at the Fulton County Health Center. Hernandez was not injured.

Other units assisting at the crash scene were the Fulton County Sheriff Department, Ohio Department of Transportation, and Swanton Fire Department (hazardous materials unit; diesel fuel spill.)

OSHP troopers are still investigating.–posted 1:08 pm 2.22.17
