Thatcher Qualifies For U.S. Olympic Trials

Cameron Thatcher Cameron Thatcher Cameron Thatcher, 17, son of Paul and Kristin, Powell, and grandson of Maryann Thatcher, Archbold, qualified for the United States Olympic Trials in the men’s 3- meter springboard diving competition, but was eliminated after the preliminaries.

The trials, held June 18-26 at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis in Indianapolis, Ind., determine who will represent the U.S. at the 2016 Olympics, Aug. 5-21, in Rio de Janeiro.

Finishers in the top 12 after the semifinals advanced to the finals, which were held Saturday, June 25.

Thatcher finished 23rd in the semifinals.

He also placed ninth in the men’s synchronized 3-meter event with Grayson Campbell.

Thatcher graduated from Olentangy Liberty High School in 2016, and will attend Stanford University in the fall.

He capped off his high school diving career by winning his second consecutive Ohio High School Division I diving championship in February.
