Village Income Tax Yields Many Benefits, Collects $115 Million


The first village library was located on the second floor of the Municipal Building, known as the Town & Township Hall. In the 1940s, a brother and sister of the McLaughlin family donated money to build the second library on Stryker Street, known as the McLaughlin Memorial Library. Since 1967, more than $115 million in income tax monies have been collected in Archbold. The village has benefitted from the income tax, which is currently 1.5%, with improved and new storm sewers, street improvements and the operation of its park system.

Out of the 1.5%, the village receives 1.25%, which goes to sewers, curbs and gutters, street improvements, and other capital projects.

The remaining one quarter percent, or .25%, is for park operations and improvements.

It has funded such large projects as the Ruihley Park Pavilion and the construction of Woodland Park.
