Law enforcement officers, business leaders, school officials, and listeners dedicate songs over the air for pledges during the event.– photo by David Pugh Brent Shea, treasurer of the Fulton County Heart Radiothon, said this year’s event will top its goal of $24,000.

The Radiothon aired Thursday, Feb. 11. Shea said at the end of the day, the broadcast raised $19,514.

“We finished a few hundred dollars ahead of where we were last year” at the end of the program.

He said there still is money to come in from Sauder Woodworking donations, plus additional money will be collected through the community blood screening program.

There is additional money coming from the Fairlawn Heart Carnival, held at Fairlawn Thursday.

He anticipated the Radiothon will meet its goal “with activities yet to come.”

The event went smoothly, he said.

“From our perspective, I talked with some of the volunteers from the past, and with technology and the Internet now, you need fewer volunteers. You don’t need to have people looking around (the WMTR music library) for records,” he said.

“It went really well.”
