Mayoral Inauguration, First Council Meeting Of 2016 To Be Held Under Council Oak Replica

When Jeff Fryman takes the oath of office to become Archbold mayor, Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at 7 pm, the event will be more than a simple swearing-in.

The inauguration is the first of many special events planned for the celebration of the 150th birthday of the village.

Steve Van Sickle, a member of the Archbold Sesquicentennial steering committee, said the inauguration will be held under the Council

Oak replica at Sauder Heritage Inn.

The Council Oak was a massive oak tree that stood near what is now Winameg in Fulton County.

Its size made it a natural meeting place for Native Americans of the region.

The tree lived about 300 years, but became diseased and had to be taken down in the early 1990s.

Van Sickle said the replica was crafted by Nature Makers, a California firm.

As part of the ceremony, the Archbold High School band will perform. Former mayors, and the families of those mayors who have died, have been invited.

Following the swearing-in, Archbold Village Council will hold its first meeting of the Sesquicentennial year under the Council Oak, symbolizing the connection between the past, present, and future of the village.

The event is open to the public.
