Park Board Gives Okay For Sprinklers At Spengler Field

The sprinkler project for Spengler Field received the green light, said Jennifer Kidder, Archbold Parks & Recreation Director.

Speaking to the Archbold Park Board during its Wednesday, May 14 meeting, Kidder said each group she approached, including some Archbold school district athletic teams, agree to participate in funding the project.

The underground system is needed because the turf on the field is in poor condition, which is potentially dangerous to those who play on it.

Regular watering will improve the grass.

The cost of materials for the system was estimated at $10,000.

Professional installation would add another $2,000 to $5,000, but Kidder said at the April board meeting Mike Rosebrook, athletic field maintenance supervisor, can install the sprinkler systems.

Work is expected to start at the end of the month, she said.

Kidder told the board she talked with Ryan Sell, AHS vocational agriculture teacher, about constructing a concession stand for Ruihley Park.

She said Sell told her such a project would have to wait until the start of the next school year.

With more activities in Ruihley Park, there is an opportunity to offer concession sales.

She told board members the pavilion building couldn’t be used, because there are too many rentals of the space.

She said Parks & Recreation officials will look into other possibilities.

Kidder told board members she is “pretty much done” with hiring workers for the summer.

She also told the board she had received the first check from the Fulton County Senior Center for rental of the Scout Cabin.

The center pays $300 per month. Payments are made on a quarterly basis.

The Scout Cabin recently underwent extensive remodeling, including work in the kitchen space.
