Archbold Golf Ready To Swing Into Action
Rosebrook looks for the three returning letterwinners to “fill the shoes worn by last year’s number one, two, and three men” and be ready for a successful season.
Lost to graduation were Olley Short, Dylan Reisser and Kyle Bronson.
Letterwinners returning are Stuart Wyse and Zach Short, seniors, and Kevin Boyers, a junior.
While the returnees’ experience are a strength of this year’s squad, Rosebrook said, “the mental part of this game is always a potential weakness. We will work on that more this year.
“I expect the team as a whole to do very well this year. We shouldn’t have any trouble meeting last year’s record” of 49-29.
“I think we can even do better in tournaments this year.”
The boys finished third in the Northwest Ohio Athletic League last year and tied for fourth place at the Division II sectional tournament. O. Short advanced to the district tournament individually.
“Last year we had four people fighting for the sixth spot on varsity,” said Rosebrook. “It was tough to determine who got it.
“All four are back this year. Boyers claimed it in the end. We have him, Brodie Ranzau, Michael Hesterman, and Antonio Cuellar. Three are juniors, with Brodie a senior.
“Our underclassmen improved a lot in three months last year. I expect big contributions from them by tournaments.
“The 2012 Archbold team is a little more well-rounded. All the guys could turn in a score for medalist on any given day.
“The NWOAL is tough in any sport. It came down to the last score in 2011 for the championship. This year, I think our underclassmen will help our chances more.”
Also on the team are Jackson Kelley, a sophomore, and freshmen Adam Grieser, Elijah Miller and DJ Schroeder.
Rosebrook also has one girl this season, sophomore Cora King.
“Cora was new to the game last year,” the mentor said. “I expect to see rapid improvement due to the instruction from last year.
“She practiced this summer and her swing is coming along nicely. More time on the practice greens will be a big help to her game.”
The Streaks were scheduled to open the season, Monday, Aug. 13, at the Defi ance Open.
