JV Boys Win Three
The Archbold junior varsity boys basketball team defeated Stryker and Pettisville to raise its slate to 6-0.
The Streaks hosted Stryker, Tuesday, Dec. 20, and beat the Panthers 54-23. The second quarter was the key to the victory as the Streaks outscored the Panthers 17-1 to lead 31-9 at the half.
Nine Streaks hit the scoring column. Devin Shannon led the way with 12 points and five rebounds, followed by Brandon Goering with 10 points.
The Streaks hit four trifectas, led by Chandler Wyse with two. Stuart Wyse grabbed five rebounds.
Archbold’s pressure defense played a big role as the Panthers turned the ball over 27 times.
“We played a good, solid game tonight against a decent Stryker team,” said Joe Frank, AHS coach. “I was very pleased with our effort and execution on both ends of the floor.
“We will need to continue to step it up in our quest to become a good JV basketball team.”
The Streaks hosted Pettisville, Thursday, Dec. 22, and sent the Birds home with a 42-23 loss. The key was a big first half, as the Streaks jumped out to a 27- 10 lead and cruised home from there.
Shannon got the Streaks off to an 18-point first quarter by scoring 10 to lead the way. He finished with 14.
Nine other Streaks cracked the scoring column, as balanced scoring was the name of the game. Shannon had six rebounds while Tyson Schnitkey collected four.
The Streaks connected on 10-13 from the foul line while hitting a blazing 13-19 from two-point range in the contest.
“I was again pleased with our effort tonight,” said Frank. “We played hard at both ends of the floor, and all 12 players saw significant playing time for the third game in a row.
“It is nice to see the team working together as a unit that doesn’t care who scores the points or receives credit.”
The Streaks moved to 7- 0 with a hard-fought 43-40 victory over the Ottawa- Glandorf Titans, Tuesday, Dec. 27.
The game went overtime after an O-G three-pointer at the buzzer from 30 feet.
The Streaks took control in OT and built a four-point lead, only to have the Titans hit another three to cut the margin to one point.
Archbold threw long on the inbounds pass, and Schnitkey scored at the buzzer to make the final margin 43-40.
The Streaks used balanced scoring as Shannon had 10 points, followed by Schnitkey and Jase Grosjean with nine and eight, respectively. Mike Walker and Bryce Tinsman also aided the Streak attack with seven and six points, respectively.
Archbold shot 14-44 from the field for 32% while connecting on 14-23 from the foul line. OG shot 10-39 from the field for 26% but was a red-hot 17-21 from the foul line.
Archbold outrebounded the Titans 35-24 and committed 10 turnovers to 14 for OG.
"This was a great game for us to play in," said Frank. "We came in and defeated a good, solid JV team on their home floor.
"We showed some real resolve when the OG kid hit the long trey at the buzzer to put the game into overtime.
"I was very pleased with how we responded and took charge of the game in overtime. This game will be one to look back on and use as a springboard for bigger and better things in the future.
"We had a successful 2011 portion of the season, and now we will see what happens in the 2012 segment."
