Berneda M. King

Berneda M. King, age 89 years, of Wauseon, passed away Saturday afternoon, Nov. 5, 2011, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.

She was born Nov. 28, 1921, near Archbold, the daughter of Clarence and Mary (Schmucker) Short, and married Lawrence King on June 24, 1943.

A lifelong resident of the Archbold/Wauseon area, she was a homemaker and cared for many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a volunteer at Care and Share and a quilter at Sauder Village. She was a member of West Clinton Mennonite Church near Pettisville.

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence; six children, Susan (Ed) Sutton of Alvordton, Betty (Raymond) Hathaway of Philadelphia, Mo., Kathy (Marv) Leatherman and John (Karen) King, both of Wauseon, Pete (Luana) King of Archbold, and Richard (Ann) King of Wauseon; 23 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dale (Patty) Short and R. Dean (Esther) Short, both of Archbold; and a sister-in-law, Mary Short of Alvordton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Larry; brother, Benjamin Short; and sister, Lillian Aeschliman.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the West Clinton Mennonite Church with Reverends Jesse and Naomi Engle officiating. Interment will precede in the Pettisville Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church fellowship hall from 2- 9 p.m. on Wednesday.
