JR. HIGH SPORTS DIGEST

Archbold 7th Grade Football

Once at 3-3, the Streaks lost consecutive games to Wauseon and Liberty Center to finish 3-5.

The Wauseon game was played on Thursday, Oct. 20 in cool and sloppy conditions. Archbold’s offense was never able to sustain any drives or break any long plays as the Indians’ defense posted a 36-0 shutout.

The Tigers traveled to Spangler Field, Tuesday, Oct. 25, with an undefeated record. Both teams played exceptionally hard but LC won 32-14.

Archbold won the toss and put up six quick points. Quarterback Austin Welch threw three straight completions, the last one to Gabe Spiess for a 48-yard touchdown. The point-after-touchdown attempt was no good.

LC responded with several punishing runs by their talented running back and soon found pay dirt plus the two-point conversion for an 8-6 lead. The Streaks fumbled on their next possession and the Tigers made them pay with a play action touchdown pass. Still in the first quarter, LC scored again for a 24-6 lead.

The Blue and Gold was able to move the ball in the second quarter. Welch completed a screen pass to Spiess, who eluded several tacklers and raced in for another long TD. Toby Walker caught a slant pass for the two-point conversion.

But the momentum shifted right back to the Tigers as they scored right before halftime to make the score 32-14.

The second half was a complete turnaround as neither offense was able to put up any points.
