Robert W. Nyce, M.D.

Robert Nyce Robert Nyce Robert Wynne Nyce, M.D., 85, formerly of Fayette, died early Wednesday morning, Sept. 28, 2011, at Fairlawn Haven in Archbold.

He was born on July 24, 1926, in Souderton, Pa., to the late Wynne J. and Grace (Nice) Nyce.

He married Ruth O. Yoder on Aug. 2, 1950, in Louisville, Ohio, and she survives.

Bob grew up in Doylestown, Pa., and graduated from Doylestown High School in 1944. After high school he joined the Civilian Public Service to serve during WW2. His experiences during his CPS work led him to consider a medical career.

He attended Goshen College in Goshen, Ind., where he met Ruth, and they moved to Pennsylvania where Bob graduated from Hahnemann Medical School in Philadelphia. In July of 1956, Bob and Ruth moved to Fayette, where Doc began his medical practice that lasted for 47 years, retiring in 2003.

“Doc Nyce” was very involved in his community, serving as a member of the Gorham-Fayette School Board, Park Board, Fayette Lions Club, and he was an avid supporter of the Fayette Opera House.

His devotion to his community was recently publicly recognized with the dedication of “Nyce Drive” in Fayette.

He enjoyed camping trips, listening to music, reading, and photography. He was very proud of his involvement in delivering hundreds of babies into this world.

Bob was a member of the Zion Mennonite Church in Archbold.

Surviving Bob besides his wife, Ruth, are four children, Karen (Randy) Stuckey of West Unity, Richard (Eileen) Nyce of Pettisville, Susan (Kirk) Stiffney of Goshen, Ind., and Phil (Maribeth) Nyce of Millbury, Mass.; siblings, Joyce (Millard) Osborne of Harrisburg, Pa., Donald (Faye) Nyce of Lancaster, Pa., and John (Dorothy) Nyce of Goshen, Ind.; ten grandchildren, Emily, Jonathan, Rustin, Matthew, Hope, Kyle, Joshua, Aaron, Peter, and David; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William Jay Nyce, in 1986.

A memorial service for Robert W. Nyce was held on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011, at 4:30 p.m. at the Zion Mennonite Church in Archbold with Pastors Jeff Kauffman and Mona Sauder officiating.

Private interment preceded at Pleasant View Union Cemetery in Fayette.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Robert Nyce are suggested to the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) or to Goshen College.

The Eagle Funeral Home- Barrett Chapel in Fayette was entrusted with the arrangements.
