Pettisville School Auction Raises Nearly $32,000
The Pettisville school auction conducted Saturday, May 28, netted the district $31,949.
The district auctioned many items from the current building that were not needed in the new school that is currently under construction just south of the K- 12 building.
About two-thirds of the old structure is scheduled for demolition.
Sold items ranged from file cabinets, chairs, lockers, and cabinets to extra childrens books and a bathtub from the kindergarten classroom.
The amount of money generated was within 16% of what Steve Switzer, district superintendent, estimated. Switzer predicted the gross receipts from the sale would be around $38,000.
Money raised will be used to purchase equipment and furnishings for the new building.
Board members said they were pleased with the sale, which was attended by more than 300 bidders.
Several unique items generated more money than expected, including some of the banners that hung in the school gymnasium. One that featured the “Pettisville Blackbird” name brought over $200.
Others went from $20 to $150.–D.J. Neuenschwander
