County Unemployment Rate Is Down 1.2 Points
The Fulton County unemployment rate in March was 11.3%, say estimates from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
That’s down 1.2 percentage points from February, when ODJFS estimated unemployment was 12.6%, a figure that was later revised to 12.5%.
It is the second-highest rate in the four-county area. ODJFS estimates showed Henry County had the highest rate during March, at 11.5%. Defiance County had the lowest March rate, at 9.7%, the only county in the four-county area under 11%. Williams County unemployment was 11%.
In the 27 months that have elapsed since January 2009, the Fulton County unemployment rate has topped 10% for 23 of those months, and has topped 11% for 22 months.
Unemployment hit a high of 16% in January 2010. The low was 9.6%, in September 2010.
Fulton County was in a three-way tie for the 19thhighest unemployment rate in Ohio. Fulton County was tied with Carroll and Harrison counties.
ODJFS estimated that during March, there were 22,000 individuals in the Fulton County labor force. Of those, 19,500 were employed, while 2,500 were looking for work. High, Low
Among Ohio’s 88 counties, Ottawa County, east of Lucas County along the Lake Erie shoreline, had the highest unemployment rate during March. ODJFS estimated 16.3% of the workforce there was out of a job.

When seasonal adjust- ments are applied, the March unemployment for Ohio is 8.9%, compared to the national rate of 8.8%.
Without seasonal adjustments, the Ohio March rate was 9%. The national rate was 9.2%.
ODJFS estimated during March, there were about 5.8 million persons in the state labor force. About 526,400 workers were out of a job.
