Joan L. Alderfer

Joan L. Alderfer, age 70, of Archbold and formerly of Woodstock, Vt., passed away Friday, March 18, 2011, in her home.

Prior to her retirement she had worked as a private duty Registered Nurse. She also volunteered at 10,000 Villages in Archbold.

She thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren who called her "Oma," and she also enjoyed trips to the Jersey shore, gardening, music, reading and birds.

Joan was born in Montgomery County, Pa., on Sept. 1, 1940, the daughter of the late Marvin K. and the late Mary (Hagey) Landis.

She attended Zion Mennonite Church in Archbold.

Surviving is one son, Todd (Kim) Alderfer of Greensburg, Kan.; two daughters, Mindy (Stan) Graber of Washington, Ind., MaryBeth (Kerry) Beck of Archbold; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Merrill (Rita) Landis of Harleysville, Pa., Glenn (Sue) Landis of Lititz, Pa.; stepmother, Marion Landis of Souderton, Pa.; and aunts, Miriam Swartley of Goshen, Ind., and Kathryn Landis of Sellersville, Pa.

A Celebration of Life was held at 4 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2011, at the Zion Mennonite Church, with Pastor Jeff Kauffman and Pastor Mona Sauder, officiating. There was no visitation.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be given to Bethany Birches Camp, where Joan and the children had been involved since the early stages of the camp as volunteers, workers, and also as campers.
