Man Arrested After Brief Vehicle Chase
Martin Schmidt, Archbold police chief, said charges are pending against a man who eluded police following a Monday, March 7, incident in the Colony Meadows Trailer Park.
Police were called to the home of Martha Lopez, in Colony Meadows, at about 11:13 pm, where it was reported a man was at the back door of the home, trying to get in.
Schmidt said when offi- cers arrived, the subject fled on foot, and escaped.
The following morning, at 8:05 am, Schmidt said offi- cers spotted the subject driving a car in the South Defi- ance Street area. A check of the license plate showed the plate belonged to a different vehicle.
When police attempted to stop the auto, the driver drove through the Huntington Bank South Branch parking lot, then drove onto South Defiance Street briefly before driving into a restaurant parking lot.
The vehicle then drove out of the parking lot and attempted to flee north on South Defiance Street. A second, southbound police vehicle stopped the suspect in the St. John’s Christian Church parking lot.
The suspect was taken to the Archbold Police Department and interviewed, then transported to the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio. He was later released on electronic monitoring, with a global positioning system device attached.
