Duane A. VanDeVoorde
Duane A. VanDeVoorde, 67 years, of West Unity, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at Florida Hospital-Heartland Division in Sebring, Fla.
Duane was born Sept. 7, 1943, in Mt. Clemons, Mich., to the late Rene and Beatrice (Rolph) VanDeVoorde.
He was a 1962 graduate of Edon High School and a 1964 graduate of DeVry University.
Duane taught electricity at Four County Career Center for 30 years, retiring in 2001.
He attended West Unity Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Williams County Retired Teachers Association.
Duane was a very loving father, grandfather and enjoyed following his grandchildren’s activities.
Surviving are his three children, Steve (Kim) VanDe- Voorde of Cookeville, Tenn., Renee (Don) Roesener of Pioneer, and Brad (Denise) VanDeVoorde of Pioneer; seven grandchildren, Sara Beth VanDeVoorde, Brittany and Lauren Sparks of Cookeville, Tenn., Heather and Josh Roesener of Pioneer, Clayton & Cady VanDeVoorde of Pioneer; one great-granddaughter, Layna Rice of Cookeville, Tenn.; three sisters, Mary Lou (Bill) Boner of Ellenton, Fla., Diane (Hubert) Wynn of Camden, Mich., and Carol VanDeVoorde of Taylor, Mich.; two brothers, Jim (Carolyn) VanDeVoorde of Edon, and Ray VanDeVoorde of Sebring, Fla.; nine nephews and one niece; and his devoted dog, Jack.
He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Gerald Carr.
Funeral services for Duane A. VanDeVoorde will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at West Unity Presbyterian Church, 201 East North Street, West Unity, with Pastor Dorothy Ritchie-Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Grove Cemetery, West Unity.
Visitation for Duane will be held Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, from 2-8 p.m. in the Orr Funeral Home, 202 North Liberty Street, West Unity. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
Memorial tributes in the name of Duane A. VanDe- Voorde may be given to the American Cancer Society or the West Unity Senior Center, 509 West Main Street, West Unity, Ohio 43570.
