Claribel Gallaway, age 93, of Archbold, passed away Thursday morning, May 6, 2010, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.
On June 15, 1940, she married Glenn Gallaway, and he preceded her in death in 1985.
Both Claribel and Glenn devoted their lives to teaching. She taught in Van Wert County before marriage. After their marriage they lived in Fayette and later moved to Archbold, where they spent the remainder of their lives.
Both taught in Archbold Area Schools for many years before retiring in 1973.
Claribel was born in Van Wert County, Ohio, on Jan. 26, 1917, the daughter of the late Charles and the late Laura (Knittle) Stuckey.
She was a member of the Fulton County Retired Teachers Association and the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. She was an active member of the Archbold United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, a member of Fayette Chapter No. 77 of the Order of the Eastern Star, having been Worthy Matron in 1947, a member of the Fayette Past Matron Association, the Archbold Hospital Auxiliary, and the Archbold Garden Club.
She is survived by one daughter, Carole Jeanne (Stephen) Pape of Archbold; three granddaughters, Stephanie Pape Mosteller, Susan Pape White, and Jennifer Pape; as well as five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Donna Gallaway of Leipsic.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; one son, Thomas; two sisters, Fern Stuckey Wise and Pauline Stuckey Brown; and one brother, Charles Graydon Stuckey.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 8, 2010, at the Archbold United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David David, officiating. Interment will follow in the Archbold Cemetery.
Friends may call in the Narthex of the church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Archbold United Methodist Church.
