Jon D. Schaffner, 69, of Pettisville, passed away Thursday evening, Dec. 24, 2009, at Toledo Hospital.

He was born on Nov. 18, 1940, in Gorham Township, Ohio, to the late Gaylord and Helen (Rollins) Schaffner. Jon married Barb Colegrove on June 8, 1994, in Pettisville, and she survives.

Jon was a 1958 graduate of Gorham Fayette High School, and later went on to earn a bachelor's in science at Morehead State College, a master's in education from Michigan State University, and a specialist’s degree from Eastern Michigan.

He spent his career as an educator and athletic coach for 35 years. Jon enjoyed playing cards at the VFW, liked to farm and golf, and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye and Detroit Tigers fan.

Surviving Jon besides his wife Barb are one son, Eric Schaffner of Aliso Viejo, Calif.; one daughter, Jill (James) Whaley of Cranbury, N.J.; four stepchildren; two brothers, Alan (Ginny) Schaffner and Gayle (Diana) Schaffner, all of Fayette; two sisters, Sharon (Mick) Hartsell of Wauseon and Janet Sue (David) Sheely of Hudson, Mich.; four grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; and six step-great grandchildren.

A funeral service for Jon Schaffner was held on Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home- Barrett Chapel in Fayette with Rev. Kathy Currier officiating. Interment followed at Pleasant View Union Cemetery in Fayette.
