Greg Nofziger, Pettisville head boys basketball coach, could look at the coming season as a rebuilding year.
Nine seniors graduated from last year’s squad that went 20-3, 9-1 in the Buckeye Border Conference. The team also made a run to the district final.
Just two letterwinners return: Zane Miller and Lincoln Frey, seniors.
“We lack varsity experience and size, but we will rely on our quickness and speed on the offensive and defensive sides to control the tempo,” said the nine-year mentor.
Lost from last year’s squad: Quinn Nofziger, 16.6 points per game; Michael Deffely, 16.5 ppg; Jordan Klopfenstein, 8.7 ppg; Michael Haase, 6.2 ppg; Jared Avina; Harris King; Lucas Nofziger; Michael Burkholder; and Jordan Lemley.
Nofziger has compiled a 135-62 record in nine years at the helm of the Blackbirds. Assistant coaches are Scott Rupp, also the freshman coach, and Lynn Short, junior varsity coach.
PHS opens its season, Saturday, Dec. 5, at Delta. The Birds’ first home game is Thursday, Dec. 10, against Edon.
