Brian Ziegler, second-year Archbold head girls basketball coach, welcomes back eight letterwinners that went 18-5 last year and finished second in the Northwest Ohio Athletic League with a 7-1 record. The Streaks lost just one letterwinner, Dani Leaser. Four starters return from a squad that fell in last year’s Division III district semifi- nal game. More ... That’s just what Doug Krauss, Archbold head coach, has when the 2009-10 boys basketball season starts. More ... “Most of our lineup will consist of freshmen and sophomores. We have very little post-season experience, with just two returning district qualifiers on our roster,” said Brian Becher, Archbold head wrestling coach. Archbold returns 15 letterwinners from last year’s squad that finished 30-13, 5-3 in the Northwest Ohio Athletic League. More ... The Pettisville girls basketball team opened its season with a 57-47 non-league loss at Wauseon, Friday, Nov. 27. The Indians jumped out to a 19-13 lead after one quarter and led 35-22 at the half. Pettisville outscored its host 13-9 in the third quarter to tighten the gap to 44-35, but Wauseon won the fourth quarter 13-12 for the 10- point victory. More ... Greg Nofziger, Pettisville head boys basketball coach, could look at the coming season as a rebuilding year. Nine seniors graduated from last year’s squad that went 20-3, 9-1 in the Buckeye Border Conference. The team also made a run to the district final. Just two letterwinners return: Zane Miller and Lincoln Frey, seniors. More ... Stacy Wyse, a setter on the Archbold volleyball team, was named Player of the Year by the Crescent-News last week. The senior was 219/276 in serving for 80% with 80 aces. She was 158/177 in hitting 89% with 51 kills, and 1,287/1,319 setting for 98%. Wyse had 799 assists and 209 digs. Julie Nofziger, AHS head volleyball coach, was named Coach of the Year. More ... The Northwest Ohio Athletic League named its 2009 football honors, with many Streaks named. Trey Westrick, an offensive end, was First Team-Offense. Also a defensive back, he was named First Team- Defense. Drew Smith, an offensive end, was named Second Team-Offense. Josh Meyers, a defensive end, and Isaac Rosales, a lineman, earned First Team- Defense honors. More ... Alicia Drewes, an Archbold High School junior, is a member of the Cleveland Internationals Soccer Club U-17 girls team that won the United Soccer League’s Super Y-League North American championship in Tampa, Fla. In the preliminary round, the team defeated opponents from Ottawa, New Jersey, and Florida. More ... |
