Fourth Of July

More Than Fireworks, Picnics

There are many, including talk radio voices, Internet bloggers, and cable TV pundits, who are anxious to list America's faults.

Those often screaming voices make it difficult to remember what is right about America.

What is right about America is freedom. Freedom that allows talking heads to rant against everything from the President to post-nasal drip. Speaking out against the government in some nations buys the speaker a long prison stay.

Americans gather in protest for hundreds of reasons, most recently the "tea parties" protesting government fiscal policy. In Iran, police agencies turned guns on crowds protesting dubious election results.

Americans have economic freedom, freedom to work hard, to create, invent, invest and advance oneself from poverty to riches. In many countries of the world, the reward for long hard work is simply an early grave.

The above are only a few freedoms Americans enjoy, which many people of the world only wish they could.

As we enjoy the Independence Day holiday Saturday, be grateful for your freedoms- because many around the world have none.
