Arthur J. Spiess

Arthur J. Spiess, age 89 years, of Archbold and formerly of Maumee, passed away Tuesday morning, June 23, 2009, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.

He was born Aug. 21, 1919, in Archbold, the son of Alfred and Aleta (Fox) Spiess. He married Ruthalee Holliday in 1951, and she preceded him in death in 2003.

A resident of Maumee many years, he worked as a custodial leader for Maumee City Schools for 15 years, retiring in 1984.

He is survived by one sister, Florence Augustine of Archbold; a sister-in-law, Janice Spiess of Sylvania; nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a brother, Denver Spiess.

Services were held on Friday at the Fairlawn Chapel with Rev. Charles Gautsche officiating. Interment followed in the Archbold Cemetery.

Short Funeral Home in Archbold was entrusted with the arrangements.

The family suggests that memorials be given to Fairlawn Haven.
