Marjorie J. Richer

Marjorie J. Richer, age 83, of Archbold, passed away Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, after suffering a stroke.

She was born on June 12, 1926, near Elida, Ohio, the daughter of Rhuda and Elnora (Hilty) Brenneman.

Following her graduation from Gomer High School, she married Ora Richer and moved to the Archbold community.

Marjorie had a passion for serving others. She supported the work of MCC through volunteer work at Care and Share, and Mennonite Women at West Clinton Mennonite Church. She demonstrated hospitality in her home, providing many meals for friends and family.

She was actively involved as a member of West Clinton Mennonite Church, teaching Sunday school to children, singing in special groups, taking an interest in the greater Mennonite church, and supporting outreach programs in the community. She was known to encourage peace in her family and also believed that peace was the way to live her life.

She was a tour guide at Sauder Village since 1976, sharing her passion for history and her heritage with those who listened to her stories from the past.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ora; four children, Mike (Connie) Richer of West Unity, Brooks (Susan) Richer of Archbold, Marcia (Eric) Lehman of Archbold, and Ken (Leisa) Richer of Bryan; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, John of Lima, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary Florence; a brother, Leland; and a son, Timothy.

Visitation will be held at West Clinton Mennonite Church on Friday, March 6, 1-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m.

A memorial service will be held at West Clinton on Saturday, March 7, at 11 a.m.

The family suggests donations be given to Mennonite Central Committee.
