Sauder Woodworking Sells Trucking Arm
      Kevin Sauder, chief executive officer of Sauder Woodworking, said the company's trucking operation, Sauder Transit, has been sold. The decision was announced to company employees Thursday, Jan. 22, in an internal company memo.

County Unemployment Tops 10% In December
      Fulton County unemployment during December was 10.3%, the highest in recent memory. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services said Fulton County was tied for the 17th highest unemployment rate in the state. Other contenders for the 17th spot were Ashtabula and Perry counties.

Still No Firm Date On Digital TV Switch
      With the original deadline looming, there is still no firm date for television stations to stop broadcasting analog signals. Press reports on Monday, Feb. 2, state an earlier, fasttrack vote in the United States House of Representatives defeated a Senate-approved pushback of the Feb. 17 deadline to June 12.

      Jaron Bernath, AHS '05, was named to the dean's list at Trine University, Angola, Ind. for the fall semester. To qualify, students must maintain a grade point average of 3.5-3.749 while taking at least 15 credit hours. The son of Jan and Linda, rural Wauseon, he is a senior electrical engineering major.

Rupp Named Chairman Of Board At F&M
      David P. Rupp, Jr., was named chairman of the Farmers & Merchants Bankcorp board. Rupp has been on the board since 2001, and was vice-chairman. He is a partner with Plassman, Rupp, Short & Hagans, and received B.S. and J.D. degrees from Ohio State University.

Radiothon Has Reduced Goal For 2009
      Fulton County Heart Radiothon takes to the airwaves Thursday, Feb. 12, with a reduced goal. Rich Batdorf, a member of the board of directors, said the goal has been reduced by about a third. The goal was reduced $6,540, from $27,370 in 2008 to $20,830 for 2009.

Cheer Teams Win Titles
      Several girls from the area are members of the Class Act All- Star cheer teams who brought home several trophies from the Kid's World New Year's Classic Championship the weekend of Jan. 24. The junior cheer team won the Level 3 division.

AHS Mock Trial Team Heads To Regionals
      Team Brutus, one of three Archbold High School mock trial teams, has advanced from district to regional competition, Friday, Jan. 30, at Bowling Green. "This is the first time in three years we made it out of districts. It's a difficult accomplishment," said Andrea Badenhop, AHS government teacher and team coach.

Northwest State Reports Enrollment Up For Spring
      Northwest State Community College said campus enrollment for the 2009 spring semester is up 9.4% over spring 2008. Amanda Potts, NSCC spokesman, said this year's student head count, based on 14 days after the semester started, is 3,897. That's up 330 students over Spring 2008, when the head count stood at 3,567 after 14 days.

Not Your Average Snowman
      Kaitlyn Beck, 8, rural Archbold, and her mother, Jamie, got creative last week. Instead of building a snowman the normal way, they decided to have him doing a handstand. Adding socks, gloves, a hat, and a bowtie gave the snowman life.

Deskins, Switzer React To Ohio Governor's Education Reforms
      Ted Strickland, Ohio governor, offered proposals for wideranging changes in education during his State of the State message, Wednesday, Jan. 28. Steve Switzer, Pettisville Local School District superintendent, said the details of the plan will dictate how good it really is, but, "I think it is excellent. I even sent the governor a brief note to tell him so.

Village Income Tax Down Again
      Archbold municipal income tax started 2009 on a down note, collecting about 1.27% less than it did in January 2008. Councilmen were given the information at the Monday night, Feb. 2, meeting. For the month of January, the income tax collected $340,947.87, down $4,405.94 from January 2008, when the monthly collection was $345,353.81.
