Harold L. Emch
Harold L. Emch Harold L. Emch, age 87, of Archbold, died Jan. 9, 2009 at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home, where he had been a resident since 2004. He was born April 23, 1921, the son of the late Joseph and the late Alma (Munz) Emch in Youngstown. Harold graduated from Girard High School in 1939. He was an Army Veteran of WWII and served 37 months in uniform. Harold retired as an engineer for Ohio Bell after 36 years. He also served as a lay minister for the Apostolic Christian Church in Girard, Ohio for 16 years. In retirement he was an active volunteer. He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Junction. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Kathryn (Beer) Emch. Other survivors are his children, Dianne (Les) Zunkel, Elmhurst, Ill.; Dr. James Emch, Spain; Dr. John (Bev) Emch, Archbold; Elaine Emch, Chicago, Ill.; four grandchildren, Benjamin (Tonya) Zunkel, Nathaniel (Sandra) Zunkel, Kate Emch, Dr. Andrew Emch; and eight great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death was a daughter-in-law, Rosa Maria Garcia Kirmse, and a grandson, Joseph Emch. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 12, 2009 in the Chapel at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home, with Jesse Beer, officiating. Interment will follow in the Archbold Cemetery. Friends may call in the Chapel at Fairlawn Haven on Monday from 12 p.m. until the time of service. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.
