No Bicycles On Downtown Sidewalks

It's the law. Bicycles are prohibited on sidewalks in the historic district of downtown Archbold.

The same is true for skateboards, roller skates, and scooters.

Mixing bicycles, skateboards, and scooters traveling at high speeds, and dodging people on foot, is highly dangerous.

Several years ago, a woman walking out a door of a downtown business place was struck by a bicycle rider and thrown to the sidewalk. She suffered a broken arm.

As a result of the incident, Archbold Village Council passed an ordinance prohibiting riding bicycles, or other wheeled conveyances, on downtown sidewalks.

The law applies to everyone, adults and children. It is the responsibility of the Archbold Police Department to enforce the village law. Council should post printed signs at every entranceway. Engraving the message in concrete also is possible. Such technology is available.

Walking, only, is acceptable on the sidewalks in the downtown business district.
