AHS Takes Second At NWOAL Meet

The Archbold boys and girls track teams placed second at the Northwest Ohio Athletic League track meet, Tuesday, May 13 and Friday, May 16.

The Streaks used their strong running events on Friday to catch up to the stronger field teams.

After Tuesday's six events, the AHS girls were fifth with 22.5 points, and Wauseon, the eventual league champion, was second with 49.5. The 27- point gap was enough to help Wauseon win the league title, as they finished with 149.5 points. The Streaks finished 21 points behind, with 128.5.

Delta captured the boys title with 151 points. The Streaks were second with 119.

Boys

Colin Shannon was not only Archbold's top point-getter in Tuesday's field events, he also broke the school record in the high jump. The old record was 6 feet, 6 inches; he jumped 6-6.5 and won the league title.

Shannon also was on the winning 4x400 relay team with teammates Jacob Fidler, Nate Hammersmith and Michael Volkman. The relay won in three minutes, 29.69 seconds.

The 4x100 and 4x200 teams also won. Hammersmith, Fidler, Breon Price, and Garrett Waidelich won the 4x100 in 44.77 seconds and the 4x200 in 1:32.38.

Archbold's only other individual winner was Volkman, who won the 800 in 1:59.54.

Haley Nemcik scored 10 big points in the first race on Friday. She won the 100 hurdles in 15.71.

Autumn Lantz was a double winner, winning the 100 in 12.53 and 200 in 26.24.

The 4x100 team of Ashlie Horst, Melinda Sauder, Rahel Frei and Katherine Moody won in 51.7.

Katrina Gobrogge won the 800 in 2:25.35.
