Clean Passage Necessary To Public Attention to snowy, icy streets has been a challenge much of the winter of 2007-2008. Keeping passageways open has been a burdensome task for the Archbold street department. Keeping sidewalks clean has been an enormous responsibility for citizens. Street department workers met the formidable problem with excellent service. Many mornings they were on the job before 5 a.m. Some days a big issue was where to put the snow. Village crews performed a great service to citizens by keeping public parking lots and on-street parking spaces cleared of snow. Persons who drive to work and shop throughout the community rely on places to park vehicles. Also, residents were faced with the challenge of keeping sidewalks free of snow and ice. Many citizens depend on sidewalks to get around town. People with poor vision or other bodily infirmities walk or get around on motorized scooters. They depend on cleared sidewalks, as do persons who use them for exercise. Snow-free walkways and side streets are important for the safety of the community, utility workers, and postal employees. Everyone relies on clean passageways, winter, spring, summer, and fall. |
