Vernon And Marie Frey Top Residents At Fairlawn Vernon and Marie Frey were named February Residents of the Month. Vernon was born on Feb. 27, 1912 in the Wauseon area to Ezra and Cora (Miller) Frey. He had three brothers and two sisters. Vernon attended the Wauseon School until the eighth grade, when he had to stay home to take care of his younger siblings and work on the farm. Vernon met Marie Crossgrove and they were married on June 1, 1937. Marie was born on Dec. 27, 1916 in the Wauseon area to Samuel and Ida (Nofziger) Crossgrove. She had two older sisters, Mildred and Ada. Marie graduated from Pettisville schools. They have five children: Elaine, Duane, Don, Diane, and Joyce. Vernon & Marie lived on a farm on Road C, outside of Archbold, and owned a well-drilling business. Over the years, they traveled extensively, visiting all U.S. states except Hawaii. A memorable trip was traveling to the far point in Northern Canada and into Alaska. Another memorable trip was to the Holy Land. From there, they rented a car and drove north to see some friends in northern Germany. Vernon and Marie moved from the farm to Wyse Commons Apartments. They moved to Fairlawn Haven in Sept. 2007. They will be married 71 years on June 1. |
