Lockport Mennonite Church, rural Stryker, hosted 15 area Bible Quiz teams for the fourth meet of the season, Sunday, Feb. 3.
Cliff Brubaker, Lockport interim pastor whose quizzers are known for wearing black ties, said quiz is "a great place to see students with neckties, and more importantly, using their good minds to hide the Word in their hearts."
Material covered was Acts 20:13 through 22:29.
It was deja vu from the third meet when it came to announcing the top three scoring teams. "Remnant" from Sand Ridge, rural West Unity, averaged 170 points per match.
"Some Other Brothers," Edgerton Alliance, averaged 158. Winning a pizza certifi- cate for third place, "Man Eating Worms," Lockport, averaged 150 points for the second straight week.
Mixed team 2 again won the 16 mixed teams competition, scoring 155 points. Members are Audrey Stuckey, a secondyear quizzer from Lockport, and four first-year teammates: Kira Andre, North Clinton; Josiah Dahl, Lockport; McKenna Rash, Sand Ridge; and Michael Sheperd, Edgerton Alliance.
Mixed teams 11 and 15 each scored 145 points. Team 11 members: Sarah Aeschliman, West Clinton; Nicole Fetterman, Tedrow; foreign exchange student Martin Ivanov, Edgerton Alliance; Brandon Lehman, St John's; and Taylor Waidelich, Lockport.
Team 15 members: George Miller, Edgerton Alliance; Sarah Schoenhals, Central; Tim Short, North Clinton; and Laurin Waidelich, Lockport. They are coached by Chris Schoenhals.
Northwest Ohio Bible Quiz is open to youth ages 12 to 20. About one-third are experiencing quiz for the first time.
Two are Aaron Rupp, a Pettisville senior, and Stacy Kinkaid, a Stryker senior. Bible Quiz "taught me to put the Word in memory so it stays with me, saving it for later," said Rupp. "Bible quiz has given me a place to explore my faith and discuss it with others," said Kinkaid. Kinkaid's teammate and fellow SHS senior, Laurin Waidelich, attends Pine Grove and is in her fifth year quizzing with Lockport.
"It has allowed me to meet new people, make new friends and study the Word of God," said Waidelich.
The next meet is Sunday, Feb. 17. Poplar Ridge Church of the Brethren, Domersville Road, Defiance, will host teams from Edgerton Alliance, Lockport, Sand Ridge and St John's starting at 2 p.m. Tedrow Mennonite Church will host teams from Central, North Clinton and West Clinton starting at 6 p.m. For more information, visit www.nwobiblequiz.org.
