Pettisville Comes Up Short In Hunt For BBC Title

Pettisville traveled to Stryker, Thursday, Jan. 24, seeking to hand the Panthers their first loss of the season.

Stryker, ranked fourth in last week's Associated Press Division IV girls basketball poll, entered the contest with a 14-0 record, 7-0 in the Buckeye Border Conference.

Pettisville came into the game with a 11-5 record and 6- 1 in the BBC. The Birds' only league loss was a 47-28 loss to the Panthers on Dec. 7, 2007.

The Panthers outscored Pettisville in every quarter on their way to a 54-42 victory.

Pettisville dropped to 11-6, 6- 2 BBC.

Pettisville was outscored 13-7 in the first quarter, but picked up its scoring in the second, scoring 13 points. Stryker scored 14 for a 27-20 halftime lead.

The Panthers won the third 8-7, and the fourth 19-15, for the 54-42 final. Stryker used eight three pointers to push past Pettisville, including five by Megan Boetz.

Pettisville was 16/41 from the field for 39% and 6/12 from the foul line for 50%. Stryker was 18/49 from the field for 37% and 10/13 from the charity stripe for 77%.

Haley Nofziger was the only Blackbird in double figures with 15 points. Boetz led Stryker with 19; Kasey Hageman added 11 and Jacquelyn Laws, 10.

Pettisville was out-rebounded 26-22 and had five more turnovers, 17-12. "I'm proud of our ladies. thought we played very well defensively tonight," said Jason Waldvogel, PHS coach. "We needed to hit a few more shots.

"Give Stryker a ton of credit. They are a talented team."
