The Archbold girls basketball team played with intensity to break Wauseon's perfect record in the league, Thursday, Jan. 24 at Wauseon.

The Streaks won 54-49 to improve to 5-3 in the Northwest Ohio Athletic League and 13-5 overall. Wauseon dropped to 10- 4, 6-1 NWOAL. The Indians can still win the league title outright with a Feb. 1 win at Delta.

The Streaks started the game with an 8-0 run. Wauseon didn't score until there were less than three minutes left in the first quarter. The Indians scored again with 1:12 left, and Dani Newman answered with two points with only a minute left.

As the clock was ticking down, Bri Wyse made a last-second three-pointer as the buzzer sounded for a 13-6 AHS lead.

Avenging what it lacked in the first quarter, Wauseon picked up its intensity in the second. With a steal and two buckets in less than 15 seconds, the gap was closed to 13-10.

Abbey Graber hit a three to widen the lead back to six, 16- 10.

The second quarter was a scoring frenzy. Wauseon scored 23 points while Archbold scored 17, but Archbold still held a 30- 29 lead at halftime.

Wauseon scored first in the third period for its first lead of the game, 31-30. But then the Indians didn't score for another four minutes.

With five minutes left in the quarter Newman grabbed a rebound and put it back for two and a 37-31 lead. Laura Wyse's bucket caused the Indians to call a time-out down 39-31.

Wauseon closed the gap to 39- 35 leading into the final quarter.

The Indians pulled with two, scoring the fourth's first bucket.

With four minutes left Adi Lange and Graber scored buckets to widen the gap to 45-39.

Wauseon closed to within two, 45-43, with less than three minutes remaining, causing AHS to call a time-out. Then Wauseon started to foul to stop the clock, but Graber, Lange and B. Wyse sank their foul shots.

Archbold made nine of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter.

With 6.5 seconds left WHS got in a quick bucket and called a time-out, down 53-47.

Graber made one of two free throws after being fouled with 4.6 seconds left for a 54-47 lead.

Wauseon's shot at the buzzer went in, but the Streaks won 54-49.

"It was a great team effort," said Kevin "Scoop" Miller. "Our 'help' defense tonight was solid and we finished off our defensive possessions with good rebounding. It was a hard-fought game by both teams."

Graber paced the Streaks with 15 points. Lange and B. Wyse scored 12 and 11, respectively.

Stacy Wyse grabbed 10 of Archbold's 41 rebounds. Wauseon grabbed 29.

The AHS junior varsity also won 42-31.
