Birds Up Record To 11-2

The Pettisville boys basketball team traveled to Hilltop for a Buckeye Border Conference matchup on Friday, Jan. 18. Using a 30-11 first half, PHS kept its league record perfect at 6-0 with a 57-33 victory.

PHS hosted Liberty Center for a non-league contest, Saturday, Jan. 19. A 21-9 fourth quarter propelled the Birds (11- 2) to a 59-34 victory.

PHS 57, Hilltop 33

Hilltop (2-12, 0-6 BBC) scored the first two points off a tip-in by John Short, and held its last lead of the game at 4-2.

Pettisville then outscored the Cadets 6-3 to take a 10-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Birds held Hilltop to four points in the second period while scoring 20 to take a 30-11 halftime lead.

Pettisville outscored the Cadets 9-7 in the third to take a commanding 39-18 lead going into the final quarter, when PHS outscored the Cadets 18- 15 for the 57-33 final.

Logan Frey led the Birds with 20 points. Michael Deffely chipped in 12.

Pettisville was 12/22 from the free-throw line while Hilltop was 5/18.

PHS 59, LC 34

Pettisville hit three treys to jump out to a quick 9-4 lead. Quinn Nofziger hit a jumper from the top of the key at the end of the first quarter to give Pettisville an 18-8 advantage.

The Birds outscored Liberty Center 11-9 in the second quarter to take a 29-17 lead into the locker room.

Both teams started the second half slow, as Pettisville outscored LC 9-8 to hold a 13- point lead going into the final quarter.

Pettisville hit nine foul shots in the fourth on their way to a 21-point quarter and a 59-34 fi- nal.

L. Frey again led the Birds with 13 points. Alex Frey and Q. Nofziger chipped in 12 and 11, respectively.

Pettisville was 19/36 from the field, including five threepointers, and 16/26 from the line. LC, which dropped to 1-12, was 13/28 from the field and 5/9 from the line.
