The 2008 Chuck Forward Duals trophy stayed in Archbold after the Blue and Gold posted a perfect 5-0 mark, Saturday, Jan. 19.

The Streaks stand 25-10 overall.

Going undefeated were Trevor Meyer, 135 pounds; Tyler Short, 152 lbs.; and Jordan Gracia, 215 lbs.

Archbold opened against Northwest Ohio Athletic League rival Montpelier. It was also their league meet for the year.

For one of the first times this season the Streaks started with a full compliment of wrestlers, as Brian Becher, head coach, had 14 bodies to fill the weight classes. Archbold had little trouble disposing of the Locos, recording a 42-27 win for a 5-1 league record.

Archbold then went on to defeat Defiance 42-29, Edgerton 48-35 and River Valley 57-21, setting up a showdown with Coldwater in round five.

"We had a full roster, and that is a change of pace for us," said Becher. "Some of those guys are starting to get better; obviously they just need a little more mat time and are making small improvements.

"I know some of them are down, but they have to realize that some of the guys they are wrestling have 30 matches and they just have one or two, so it is going to take them a while" to catch up.

"The one positive for those guys: they are hungry to wrestle, and the other guys are starting to get worn. So those guys are fresh in mind and body."

Championship

Wrestling started at 189 lbs., where Cameron Yontz faced Nick Gabel. Yontz pinned his counterpart at 1:10 for a 6-0 AHS lead. Yontz finished the day with a 2-0 record.

Mickey Britenriker bumped up to 215 lbs., where he faced Nick Uhlenhake. A sectional winner last year, Uhlenhake entered the dual meet with a 27-0 record. The Cavalier came out on top with an 8-5 decision. Britenriker finished 3-1.

In the heavyweight matchup, Jordan Gracia pinned Tyler Wilder, but Coldwater was awarded the win because Gracia did not meet the minimum weight requirement to wrestle at heavyweight.

Coldwater picked up six points for a 9-6 lead, but the match did not count against Gracia's overall record for the day. He finished with a 4-0 record, picking up wins over Montpelier's Matt Wells, River Valley's Seth Holmes, and a pair of forfeits.

"Jordan has improved by leaps and bounds in the last two weeks," said Becher. "Taking last year off had a big influence on him at the beginning of the year. He was not very good at the beginning of the season, to say the least, and now he is starting to figure out his strengths and limitations.

"He is staying with high-percentage stuff all the time. He doesn't look like much of an athlete, but he has really good hips and balance. I think he will have good year."

Coldwater was void at 103 and 112 lbs., with Matt Jacoby and TJ Weirauch picking up forfeits. Jacoby finished with a 4-1 record, three being forfeits. Weirauch posted a 3-2 mark.

Coldwater picked up a win at 119 lbs. when Jarred Kohn pinned Bobby Rodriguez, and Brock Timmerman pinned Mike Perez at 125 lbs. for a 21- 18 Coldwater advantage.

Coldwater was void at 130 lbs., giving Ian Redd a forfeit and swinging the lead back to the Streaks, 24-21. Redd posted a 4-1 record.

Trevor Meyer squared off against Trevor Munk at 135 lbs. Meyer finished a perfect 5- 0, pinning Munk at 5:43.

Coldwater quickly closed the difference to 30-27 when Trent Muhlenkamp pinned Josh Cuellar.

"I was happy with that (Trevor) is starting to get offensive. He was getting after people today. He is wrestling a lot better for us right now," said Becher.

Archbold's Chad Rufenacht (145 lbs.) picked up a win in the opening match, but suffered an injury in his second-round loss to Defiance's Terry Wagenhauser, requiring 11 stitches in his lip. Rufenacht returned to face Coldwater's Mitch Kaiser and quickly disposed of him with a pin, giving Archbold a much-needed six points and a 36-27 lead with three weight classes left.

Tyler Short and Nate Harlow squared off at 152 lbs., with Short looking for a perfect record on the day. He had picked up four pins in his previous matches and introduced Harlow to the Archbold lights, sealing the championship trophy for Archbold with a pin at 1:56.

"Tyler obviously is wrestling the best on our team right now," said Becher. "He is the kind of kid I wish I had a few more of, but if I did we probably would have a few more fights in the room, too.

"He goes hard and gets on the other kids' nerves sometimes because he is riding them hard about being lazy. He is a kid that takes charge. I really hope things go well for him; I know he is in a tough weight class."

Archbold lost the final two matches. Alex Uhlenhake pinned Gabe Garcia at 160 lbs., and Tyler Kunk picked up a major decision over Jared Leininger at 171 pounds for the 42-37 final.

Garcia finished 2-3, while Leininger went 1-1. *Individual records are unofficial.
