Scoreless Fourth Quarter Doesn't Stop Pettisville Boys From Beating Edon Despite a scoreless fourth quarter, Pettisville remained a perfect 5-0 in the Buckeye Border Conference with a 50-35 victory over Edon, Friday, Jan. 11. Pettisville traveled to Evergreen for a non-league game, Saturday, Jan. 12, and dropped its second game in 11 outings, falling 47-43 in overtime. PHS 50, Edon 35 Josh Bruner hit a threepointer from the corner to start the scoring. Pettisville led 12- 4 after one. Edon scored 12 in the second period, but the Birds poured in 19 for a 31-16 halftime lead. Pettisville had a 50-25 advantage heading into the final quarter. The Birds didn't score a single point in the fourth, but Edon scored only 10 for the 50- 25 final. Michael Deffely led all scorers with 14 points. Quinn Nofziger added 11, including three three-pointers. Pettisville was 20/54 from the floor for 37%, including six treys. The Birds were 4/5 from the line, had 25 rebounds, and committed 13 turnovers, while Edon coughed the ball up 23 times. No Edon player scored in double figures. The Bombers were 15/33 from the field for 45% and 2/5 from the line. "It was a great overall team effort," said Greg Nofziger, PHS coach. Evergreen 47, PHS 43 OT Evergreen started out on fire, with the Vikings' Travis Ryan hitting two treys in the first period. The Vikings led 12-11 at the end of one. Pettisville went ice-cold in the second, scoring only four points as Chad Mossing scored eight of Evergreen's 13. The Birds faced a 25-15 deficit heading into the locker room. Pettisville cut into the Viking lead in the third, using a press to create turnovers for easy baskets. Q. Nofziger was fouled at the buzzer, and hit one of two free throws for a 32-27 deficit heading into the final quarter. PHS tied the game with under a minute left. Bruner had a steal but was called for traveling with 1.6 seconds left. Mossing's desperation shot fell short, and the game went into overtime with a tie at 39. The knot extended to a tie at 43. After Evergreen took a 45- 43 lead, Corey Truckor stole the ball and converted it for a layup and a 47-43 lead. Pettisville's two three-point tries rimmed out for a 47-43 fi- nal.
