County Traffic Deaths Down By Two From 2006

Preliminary figures indicate that during 2007, a total of 11 persons died in 10 crashes on Fulton County roadways.

That's down by two from 2006, when there were 12 crashes that killed 13 persons.

Figures were obtained from the Ohio Department of Public Safety, and the Fulton County Sheriff Department. Statistics from the ODPS won't be finalized until May, making the 2007 figures preliminary.

Fulton County led the four county area in 2007. Preliminary statistics show there were seven crashes resulting in eight deaths in Henry County, seven crashes that claimed seven lives in Defiance County, and four crashes killed four persons in Williams County.

During the last five years, Fulton County led the Four County area in three of the years.

Defiance County had the highest death toll in 2006, when 12 crashes resulted in 18 deaths.

Williams County led the Four County area in 2004, when 13 lives were lost in 10 mishaps. That year in Fulton County, nine crashes claimed 11 lives.

In the five-year period from 2003 to 2007, 2005 was the worst year for Fulton County. That year, 15 persons died in 14 crashes. There were 10 fatal crashes in Fulton County in 2003, when 13 persons lost their lives.

In the five-year period, there have been 55 accidents that claimed 63 lives in Fulton County. Henry and Williams counties counted 45 roadway deaths during that same fiveyear period. Henry County had a total of 41 fatal crashes; Williams County reported 40.

There were 44 persons killed in Defiance County during the 2003-2007, in 36 crashes.
